Farewell to UIUC: A Graduation Journey Filled with Joy and Memories

Dear readers,

I can hardly believe that my time at UIUC has come to an end. It has been an incredible journey, filled with many ups and downs, but I’m grateful for every moment. As I reflect on my time here, I am overwhelmed with emotions, but most of all, I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment.

On May 13th, I had my campus-wide graduation ceremony, and it was a day that I will never forget. My parents and sister flew in just in time to attend the ceremony, and it was so special to have them there to celebrate with me. Walking into Memorial Stadium with thousands of other graduating students was an exceptional feeling, and seeing the stands filled with friends and family made it even more meaningful. The speaker, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, gave an inspiring speech that left us all feeling motivated to go out and conquer the world.

After the ceremony, I took my family on a campus tour. We clicked a bunch of pictures around Illini Union, Main Quad, and the School of Information Sciences. It was a great opportunity for me to show them around the campus that has become my second home.

The next day, on May 14th, the School of Information Sciences had an award ceremony, and I was selected for the Peggy Harris Award, given to the individual who most exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism, and a concern for others and the school’s welfare. It was a sweet moment for me as my supervisor of two years, Emma Kopko, presented me with the award. The event was also attended by Dave and Jeanette Clark, who have been very close to me throughout my journey over the last two years. They made sure that I didn’t feel alone and that I experienced the US culture in the best way possible. We went to a lot of Illini football and basketball games together.

In the evening, we had the departmental ceremony at Huff Hall. Hearing my name as I walked towards the stage to collect my degree gave me chills, and it was a testament to all that I have done here.

As I bring this journey to a close, I’m reminded of the words of Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” I’m grateful for the education I received here at UIUC, and I’m excited to use it to make a difference in the world. To all the students out there, I urge you to keep working hard, stay committed to your goals, and never give up on your dreams.

In closing, I want to thank you, my readers, for joining me on this journey. Your support has meant the world to me, and I hope that it gave you a good picture of the journey of my final semester.
