Iode is an educational software package illustrating
- direction fields
- phase planes
- mechanical vibrations and RLC circuits
- Fourier series
- heat and wave equations
Iode rhymes with “diode”, and stands for “Illinois” and “ODE”. The software was used for a number of years in some sections of the differential equations course for engineering students at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The Iode labs and homework projects for that course are available at our course materials page.
Iode is
- thoroughly documented,
- highly modular,
- easily extensible.
It runs under Matlab. The core mathematical modules run also under Octave, although the graphical interface does not.
Iode is available under the GNU General Public License.
