Approximately 80% of all animal species are arthropods, making them by far the most diverse group of species.

  • The smallest arthropod in the world is a 0.1 millimeter crustacean Stygotantulus stocki.
  • The Japanese spider crab is the largest arthropod with a leg span of 3.8m!

Arthropods have:

  • jointed legs and appendages (Arthropod is latin for jointed foot).
  • an exoskeleton.
  • divided body segments.
