Evan Salcido comes to us fresh out of a Master of Science program in Natural Resource Science & Management at the University of Minnesota. He has joined the academic community at the University of Illinois as a Ph.D. student in Natural Resources & Environmental Sciences. Evan is keen to transition into mixed-methods research from a quantitative background, and begins his time on the Denali project by transcribing interviews from the previous summer in preparation for conducting interviews of his own. He will also be responsible for the project team’s production of an informational film, and is contributing to an examination of relationships between assigned values of landscape features and visitor behavior. Outside of his studies and his work with our team, Evan enjoys exercising his imagination by reading and writing fantasy fiction, and of course, spending time in the great outdoors. He is excited to be part of the team and looks forward to coming to know the landscape and the people of Denali through future work in and around the park.
About the Research
Our goal is to establish a process for advancing “inclusive conservation” that reflects the multiple viewpoints on the future of protected area management in the Denali region. Click here for more details about our project.
