IMEDIA Show & Tell Workshop on Teaching Media Literacy

Organized by IMEDIA, this workshop invited K–12 teachers from across the state to share classroom experiences, discuss challenges in teaching media literacy, network with peers, and discover new instructional resources. The half-day agenda included a show-and-tell session, group brainstorming on topics of interest, and a keynote lunch focused on how ChatGPT affects teaching practices, followed by reflection and planning. Attendees earned four professional development hours and received a $25 stipend.
2022 Summer Workshop for Teachers
Inaugural Summer Workshop for Illinois Public High School Teachers
June 27 & 28, 2022
This intensive 2½-day, hands-on program guided educators through the Illinois media literacy framework (supporting Public Act 102‑0055), covering topics such as media construction, news verification, bias, the attention economy, documentary analysis, and TikTok production. Facilitated by Michael Spikes (Northwestern) and the University of Illinois faculty, the workshop combined lectures, breakout activities, and presentations. Participants earned professional development credits, a stipend, and practical tools to integrate media literacy across courses.
