The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (“University”) is committed to providing a safe and welcoming campus environment free from discrimination based on sex, which includes sexual assault, sexual exploitation, stalking, sexual harassment, dating violence, and domestic violence (collectively referred to as sexual misconduct). The University prohibits and will not tolerate sexual misconduct because such behavior violates the University’s institutional values, adversely impacts the University’s community interest, and interferes with the University’s mission. The University also prohibits retaliation against any person who, in good faith, reports or discloses a violation of this policy, files a complaint, and/or otherwise participates in an investigation, proceeding, complaint, or hearing under this policy. Once the University becomes aware of an incident of sexual misconduct, the University will promptly and effectively respond in a manner designed to eliminate the misconduct, prevent its recurrence, and address its effects.
Policies
The University of Illinois System has a University Code of Conduct and a Student Code of Conduct. The University of Illinois System Statement on Sex Discrimination, Sexual Harassment and Other Sexual Misconduct (“Policy”) supplements the University of Illinois System Nondiscrimination Statement and sets forth the University’s position regarding conduct that violates or is otherwise inconsistent with Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 (“Title IX”), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (“Title VII”), as amended, related laws and regulations, and the University of Illinois Code of Conduct, the University of Illinois Statutes, and other University of Illinois policies addressing sexual misconduct. Title IX states: No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.
Note: Discrimination on the basis of sex (i.e. sex discrimination) may include sexual harassment and other sexual misconduct (including, but not limited to, sexual assault, sexual violence, and sexual abuse) (“Prohibited Conduct”).
THESE POLICIES APPLY TO THIS EVENT AND ALL EVENT ATTENDEES MUST CONFORM THEIR BEHAVIOR WITH THE POLICY. The Policy outlines the University’s responsibilities and procedures related to Prohibited Conduct in order to ensure an equitable and inclusive education and employment environment free of sexual violence and sexual harassment. The Policy defines conduct prohibited by the University of Illinois and explains the administrative procedures the University uses to resolve reports of Prohibited Conduct. The Policy applies to all University employees as well as undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The Policy applies at all University sites and to all University programs and activities.
Confidential resources are also available to those who have experienced sexual harassment, sexual violence, or other Prohibited Conduct in connection with this event. Advocates can be reached through the University’s We Care Program.
Information on how to report to law enforcement can be found on the University’s We Care Program. In an emergency, dial 911.
The University will respond promptly and effectively to reports of Prohibited Conduct and will take appropriate action to prevent, to correct, and when necessary and possible, to discipline behavior that violates the U of I System Statement on Sex Discrimination, Sexual Harassment and Other Sexual Misconduct.
