Other Illinois Outdoor/Hunting Programs and Organizations

We’re not the only organization in the state to help you learn how to become an Illinois hunter, but we are unique in that we focus on ADULT hunter recruitment, retention, and re-engagement. If we’re not quite the best fit for you, or if you’re looking for another program to supplement your journey to becoming a hunter, we recommend the following programs, organizations, and resources.

Hunt Illinois

Hunt Illinois is the place to find what you need to plan your next hunting trip. Whether you want details on a specific site, to buy credentials, report a harvest, or learn more about hunting safety and species-specific hunting information, they’ve got you covered. Their calendars give you an overview of all species seasons, lottery dates, and upcoming hunting related-events in IL.

Hunter & Trapper Safety Education Courses

Anyone born on or after January 1, 1980, is required to complete an Illinois hunter safety education course before purchasing a hunting license. Anyone born on or after January 1, 1998, is required to complete a trapper education course before purchasing a trapping license. Online and in-person course options are available. Bowhunter and Treestand safety are not required in IL, but are also offered.

IDNR Wingshooting Clinics

IDNR, working with a variety of partners, sponsors wingshooting clinics at sites throughout Illinois and there are three basic types of clinics are offered: Introductory, Youth/Women Clinics, and Hunters. The clinics are conducted on weekends during the spring through early fall of each year.

Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW)

Becoming An Outdoors-Woman (BOW) is a program designed to give women introductory experiences and instruction in various outdoor activities through three-day weekend workshops that include classes ranging from outdoor recreational activities to shooting sports to outdoor crafts and hobbies.

Pheasants/Quail Forever

Join your local chapter to find event that include: intro to shooting classes, clay shooting, women’s events, youth learn to hunt events, habitat cleanups, programs like Women on the Wing and No Child Left Indoors, and more!

Illinois Conservation Foundation (ICF)

The mission of the Illinois Conservation Foundation is to preserve and enhance our natural and cultural heritage by fostering and supporting ecological, educational, and outdoor recreational programs for the benefit of all people. ICF inspires today’s youth by providing quality outdoor and conservation education programs.
