About Me

Hi! I’m Hsiao-Ying, a 4th year PhD student in Informatics at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

My research interest falls in the psychographic effects on users’ trusting and protecting behaviors.

As a behavioral/user researcher, I am always intrigued by the question: ‘what makes people do this, and why?’ When it comes to online world, I am so curious about what people share with whom and how do they perceive online threats while sharing personal information.

More specifically, I study users’ perceptions of threats and their safety-seeking behaviors when using technologies. My approach to research is mixed-methods. Both quantitative and qualitative analyses are employed to discover users’ behavioral patterns and mental models.

My current research focuses on older adult users’ web browsing experience and their use of online safety-enhancing tools.
