NETZSCH Simultaneous Thermal Analyzer

A NETZSCH Jupiter 441 Simultaneous Thermal Analyzer (STA) combines gravimetric and differential scanning calorimetry analysis.  The system has a mass gain/loss sensitivity on the order of nano-grams.  Two furnaces are available, a water vapor furnace for high temperature steam exposure and a SiC furnace for inert and oxidizing atmosphere exposure.  A water vapor generator is integrated into the system.  The STA in the H Lab has supported one M.S. thesis and two Ph.D. dissertations.  The STA is currently supporting research related to novel neutron moderators for advanced reactor designs.
