Molten Salt Thermo-Physical Property Measurements

This project is in collaboration with Prof. YZ and will determine the thermo-physical properties of FLiNaK using advanced computational techniques, X-ray, and neutron scattering techniques.  A technical data gap exists for FLiNaK, a molten salt for potential use as a coolant and moderator in advanced reactor designs, and the project will measure radial distribution functions, elemental diffusivity, viscosity, and thermal diffusivity.  The measured properties will be compared to computational analogs.  Impurities found in fueled salts such as fission product and actinide surrogates will be used.
