Meet the Staff: Spring 2015 Edition – Max!

Good morning GSLIS! I know it’s been a while, but I’ve been a busy lady TA-ing classes, and I haven’t had a chance to update y’all on the new GAs that we’ve added to our fleet! Thanks for bearing with me, a very happy 2015 (yes, I know it’s March), and a happy LEEP weekend to you all as well!

And without further ado, I’d like to introduce our newest hire, Max McKittrick, a U of I grad who decided that he wasn’t quite finished with us Illini just yet. Max is a Masters student in his first semester at GSLIS. He’s not sure if he has a concentration yet, but he likes data mining/curation as well as digital networks.

He’s young blood in the Help Desk / Office of Instructional Technology Design crew, and his favorite item to borrow from the Help Desk are snacks (which he doesn’t really borrow…he just eats).

An interesting class that he took recently was MSE 422, semiconductor materials, which he took when he was getting his BS here at U of I! He learned all of the microelectric stuff that makes modern electronics work, which is pretty rad.

The top three things that Max would bring with him if he were stranded on a desert island are:

  1. hand crank record player
  2. record collection
  3. unlimited juice

Being on a desert island sounds pretty nice right now. This winter is endless.

One unique thing about Max is that in his spare time, he moonlights as a competitive video gamer (aka: professional nerd, his words, not mine).

Welcome, albeit a bit late, Max! To hear about his video game experience, his radio station, or the microelectric operations of your alarm clock, stop by the Help Desk today to say hi to Max! He, and the rest of us, can also help you make sure your VPN connection is up to date and your printing is fresher than fresh. Happy Thursday, all!
