Meet the Staff: Fall 2014 Edition – Laura G.!

Happy Thanksgiving holiday break everyone!  I hope you are all catching up on sleep, projects, and relaxation time too!  Today’s  Meet the Staff honoree is Laura G. Cruz, our fabulous Help Desker from Miami who specializes in what she likes to call “a little bit of everything.”  Laura joined the Help Desk and Office of Instructional Design in Fall 2013, and her favorite items to borrow from the desk are the headsets.  She even has one named after her; be sure to ask for “Cruz Control” so that you can take your LEEP class in style.

An interesting class that Laura is currently taking is Data Mining with Professor Vetle Torvik, and you’ll rarely see her in the GSLIS lounge without that book!  She really enjoys working with Weka and its little dancing kiwi.

Laura gets cold whenever the temperature is below 80, so we’re really proud of her ability to survive the polar vortexes here.   If she were stranded on a desert island, she would bring:

  1. An Eagle Scout
  2. Coffee
  3. A teepee

Finally, one unique thing about Laura that is especially pertinent to our Thanksgiving Meet the Staff blog post—Laura is allergic to turkey!  Gobble, gobble—who knew!?  To  hear about life in Florida, borrow an extra fabulous headset, or chat about class and GSLIS, stop by the Help Desk today to say hi!
