Meet the Staff: Fall 2014 Edition – Neil!

Two inches of snow means…two Meet the Staff posts! Part two of this deluxe snowy deal stars Neil Thackeray, Systems staff member extraordinaire who specializes in Linux, Windows, and OSX operating systems and spends his days at GSLIS developing system applications in C#, C++, Python, Perl and other languages.

When asked about his favorite item to borrow from the Help Desk, Neil said, “Hmm. Usually a USB cable for my iPhone.” Good answer! We have cables to charge iPads, iPhones 4, 5, and 6, as well as Android, Nook, and Kindle chargers. Additionally, we have both kinds of Mac computer chargers! In his spare time, Neil has recently been watching some interesting documentaries about World War II weaponry.

The top three things that Neil would bring with him if he were stranded on a desert island:

  1. Mary Ann
  2. Soccer ball
  3. His Leatherman

Finally, when asked for one unique thing about himself, Neil mentioned, “I’ve studied karate for almost 30 years.” Yowsers! Don’t mess with the Systems Office!  However, for questions about programs, updates, licenses, code, and hardware, they are definitely the place to go 🙂 Located on the second floor near the faculty mailboxes, they’d love for you to say hi!
