Team Awesome – A Blast from the Past Blog Edition

Can you guess who this is?
Elizabeth Beers

It’s former Team Awesome member, Elizabeth (Edwards) Beers along with another Team Awesome alum, Shane Beers!

We thought it would be fun to include feature past members on this blog as well, especially after the response we got when we introduced our 2010-2011 Team Awesome crew. So, I present today’s special Team Awesome – A Blast from the Past Blog Edition, where we feature former Team Awesome member, Elizabeth Beers:

1) What is your name?
Elizabeth Beers, though when I worked for ITD, I was Elizabeth Edwards. I married Shane Beers, another Team Awesome alum.

2) When did you work for Team Awesome?
GA: January 2005-September 2006
VCAIS: September 2006-October 2007

3) ITD or Help Desk?
ITD all the way

4) What are you up to now?
Digital Services Assistant at the Kresge Business Administration Library at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. I’m not sure, but I think that’s almost as long a job title as when I worked at ITD.

In addition to my full-time job and being awesome (also a full-time job), I keep busy running, gardening, canning, hanging out with cats, riding my moped, prepping to teach my LEEP class in the spring, and wasting time on the internet.

5) How has Team Awesome prepared you for your amazing and awesome life now?

As a result of working for Team Awesome, I have unrealistically high service expectations for academic support units. I say “unrealistically high” because none of the three institutions I’ve worked for since leaving GSLIS have come even close to measuring up. Also I learned a lot of bad jokes.

6) What is your favorite memory about Team Awesome while you were here?

It’s so hard to choose! I wasn’t present for any of the epic Patone phone pranks, but I have fond memories of our Talk Like a Pirate Day potluck, that time that I played Boston’s “More Than a Feeling” for 15 minutes straight to protest running classes in the last possible time slot before winter break, and the day that we were the only unit running classes because everyone else wimped out in the snow.

I think I will go down in ITD history, however, as the GA who called the Genglers because the storm sirens were going off and we weren’t sure what to do with the classes we were running. Jill’s answer: GO TO THE BASEMENT.

7) What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you while on the job?

Apart from the times when he would throw things at me, I would have to say that working with Matt was the funniest thing that has ever happened to me on the job. Ask him about spider monkeys or eating ice cream in his sleep. I dare you.

Many thanks to Elizabeth for participating! For all past Team Awesome members who haven’t done so already, comment on this blog post if you would like to be included!

Next up, an investigative look into spider monkeys and eating ice cream in your sleep, with Matt Beth!
