At the micro-scale, and especially, at the nano-scale some of the most simple and mundane materials begin to appear fascinating. Whether we consider the cement and concrete in our infrastructure or the clays and stones commonly found on our planet, all of these are complex, heterogeneous, mixture of crystalline and amorphous phases spanning across multiple scales.
Garg Group is focused on the fundamental characterization and chemistry of such complex systems in order to engineer sustainable and smart materials.
The group is led by Assistant Professor Nishant Garg and is situated at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
