The Wind Engineering Research Laboratory surveyed the Cookeville and Nashville area after the devastating tornado in March 3, 2020. The survey lasted 4 days from Saturday, March 6th to Tuesday, March 9th. Here are 3 preliminary lessons after this survey:
- The tornado had a steep damage gradient, houses within yards of each other had significantly different damage levels
- Foundation, anchorage, and connection failures were predominant.
- There is evidence of a complex wind field.
Here are some pictures illustrating the previous points:
This survey was possible thanks to the support of VORTEX-SE and StEER. A second team is going on March 16th to expand our knowledge and perform a more detailed investigation
