Project: Oxidative Cleavage of Unsaturated Fatty Acids to Diacids
Project Description: Oxidative cleavage of unsaturated C=C bonds in alkenes and unsaturated fatty acids with hydrogen peroxide gives an alternative to the use of hazardous or energy-demanding oxidants to form value-added aldehyde and acid intermediates. We propose the surface structure of active sites, H2O2-derived reactive intermediates, and reaction mechanism using kinetic and spectroscopic studies. Also, we use reactor engineering to improve performance of catalytic system based on insight to reaction mechanism.
