Kaylin Wallen, PhD student. Born and raised in the beautiful U.S. Virgin Islands, Kaylin has always been passionate about research and conservation work for invasive and native aquatic species. Kaylin joined the lab in the fall of 2025 to work with the invasive rusty crayfish found in the lakes of the Midwest United States. She received her bachelor’s degree in 2025 from Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia, where she studied biology and public health. In the future, Kaylin hopes to continue pursuing conservation research, with the goal of one day helping to prevent, maintain, and restore aquatic environments affected by anthropogenic impacts resulting from human activity.

Jacob Watson, Masters student. Hailing from Illinois, Jacob has gained a diversity of ecology experience through his work in Montana, Illinois, and, most recently, Missouri. Jacob came to the Larson lab in the spring of 2025 to work with the imperiled pilose crayfish of Wyoming’s Bear River watershed and contribute to a collaborative effort with Wyoming state and nonprofit entities to study conservation pressures for the species in the basin. He is largely interested in stream ecology, restoration ecology, and freshwater invertebrate conservation, hoping to work in the overlap of these areas to study, mitigate, and reverse human-driven impacts on stream ecosystem function and integrity.

Dajanae Williams, Masters student. Daja is a master’s student in the lab, having joined in fall 2024. Prior to this, she completed a Post-Baccalaureate fellowship at Rice University, where she conducted NSF-sponsored research on the impact of climate change on dioecious plants and their associated soil arthropod communities. She graduated from Texas Southern University in May 2023 with a B.S. in Biology. Daja’s research interests broadly encompass wildlife management and restoration ecology. Her career goal is to become a zoologist, leveraging her research to contribute to environmental conservation efforts
