Scholarships are available for you when you study abroad. Some require applications, some do not. You’ll be notified directly from those with no application.

Scholarship for Newly-Admitted Engineering Freshmen

IPENG offers a $2,000 scholarship to newly admitted engineering freshmen who plan on studying abroad during their academic career at the University of Illinois.  Watch for an email in early spring, after admission notices have been sent out by the College of Engineering, notifying qualified students about this scholarship and the application procedures.  To date, over 2,500 students have received this scholarship. It is never too early to start planning your international experience.

Scholarships/Fellowships for Degree-Seeking Engineering Students

MEP International Study Abroad Scholarship Morrill Engineering Program students who are studying abroad.

  • No application, IPENG will notify recipients
Engineering students participating in an IPENG program to Argentina, Brazil, or Chile and Engineering freshmen IPENG Uruguay program.
William R Miller and Marha L Behr-Miller Scholarship
  • $1000 -$2000 award
  • 3.3 gpa
  • No application, eligible students will be notified
Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Mechanics students, who are US Citizens, studying for at least a semester in: Austria, China, Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, and Taiwan.
IPENG Travel Scholarship
  • $500- $1000 award
  • Application required
College of Engineering (including ABE & ChemE) undergraduates who are participating in a University of Illinois approved program

Dual major students must be enrolled in Engineering at time of study abroad. CS +X students are not eligible.

Independent work and independent study programs must be engineering-related and a minimum of 4 weeks. Verification required.

Illinois for Illinois (I4I) Scholarship
  • Short-Term (Winter Break, Spring Break, or Summer): $1,000-$1,500
  • Semester (Fall or Spring): $2,000-$3,000
  • Academic Year: $4,000-$6,000
  • Application required
All University of Illinois degree-seeking students
Gilman International Scholarship
  • Up to $5000
  • For U.S. citizens receiving a federal Pell Grant.
  • Countries with travel warnings ineligible.
  • Application required
