Apply for the Humanities in Action Program
The Humanities in Action program will support five Illinois humanities students who are interested in applying their humanities training to address a vital area of need in the C-U community. Students will receive $1000, training, and support for their participation in this semester-long service opportunity. Learn more at an upcoming info session at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 10. Applications are due April 3.

The deadline for English department scholarship applications is coming up on Friday, March 11.
As a reminder, the Department of English offers numerous merit scholarships totaling more than $100,000 in an annual competition in the spring. These scholarships recognize and reward outstanding achievements by English, Creative Writing, or Teaching of English students. See the website for more details.

If you haven’t yet checked in with the folks at the Humanities Professional Resource Center (HPRC), please do so! You can start a conversation with them at any time (the earlier the better), and you don’t need to wait until you have answers to the questions you think they might ask you (such as “what do you want to do after you graduate?”). It’s fine to start with “I don’t know” and work from there!
To make things easy, schedule an in-person advising appointment with Anna on Thursday morning. You’ll have a private appointment in the HPRC conference room (105 Greg Hall) and then you can stick around to talk to Julie about career planning. It’s one-stop shopping!

The Image of Research — UR Edition is a multidisciplinary competition celebrating the diversity and breadth of undergraduate student research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. All undergraduate students are invited to submit entries consisting of an image and brief text that articulate how the image relates to the research. “Research” is defined broadly to include creative and scholarly work in all fields. The image submitted can represent your work either concretely or abstractly. Perhaps it is an image of your research itself, an activity related to your research, or the impact of your research.
Want to know more? Attend the upcoming workshop below to learn more about the competition and get tips and tricks for visualizing your research. We will spend the second half of the hour on “workshopping” so please bring your ideas and draft images.

aNTI-RACISM IN COMMUNITY SERVICE WORKSHOP
During this three-hour workshop, we will learn about (1) the historical development of racism through capitalism, (2) the influence of White supremacy in community service, and (3) explore anti-racist practices from the perspective of Black liberation so that we can practice being an upstander with service-learning case studies. There are two remaining options for participating in the anti-racism workshop:
In-person option: Friday, March 4, 2 – 5 p.m. CT in room 1000 at the Siebel Center for Design
Asynchronous option: while this workshop is far more powerful when you participate in one of the group options, we will also offer an asynchronous version. Research Support Grant (RSG) Research Support Grant (RSG) This grant provides students from all disciplines with the funds necessary to conduct research or creative projects during the academic year both on and off campus (including summer terms). Awards will be up to $2,000 and are meant to cover research travel costs, living expenses incurred during academic breaks (i.e., winter break and summer terms, NOT regular semester living expenses), and materials or other ancillary costs. We hope that this competition will both broaden and deepen the types of research being conducted by undergraduate students on campus, and that the recipients are able to use this opportunity as a way of engaging with their fields.
