Networking in Whova

While it is not the same as our typical in-person conference, we recognize we would all love to network and socialize again. We have tried to create networking opportunities throughout the hybrid event for both in-person and online attendees.

Networking Options

  • This may seem trivial, but consider adding a picture to your Whova profile to replace the default avatar. You can also include a bio, website, and other information.
  • Send speakers or other attendees a message through Whova. These messages will pop up in their private Whova inbox and send them a notification. (Demo in Messaging Examples section)
  • Join in the Q&A and group chat for sessions
  • Start a Virtual Meet-up. These are a way to invite a small group of people (30 or less) to meet and discuss a particular topic live as opposed to asynchronously on discussion boards. (Demo in Messaging Examples section)
  • Post on the discussion or social group boards
  • Add a new discussion topic or social group
  • Post a job to the Jobs Board.
    • If you are seeking a job, add your resume, LinkedIn, or webpage to your Whova profile.
  • Share an article or check out articles that others have shared.

Messaging Examples

There are two main opportunities to have a conversation with other attendee:

  1. Video call or chat with another conference attendee.
    1. Browse attendees or search for someone under the “Attendees” tab
    2. Select “Send Message”
    3. Either type a chat to the attendee or video call using the “video call” feature in the upper right or lower left corner of the chat screen:
  2. Virtual Meet-ups
    1. You can find these by navigating to the Community tab > Meet-ups and Virtual Meets. Rooms have a 30-person limit.
    2. Under Meet-ups you can also create a meet-up with a different theme using the “Suggest a Meet” option. We are limited to five virtual rooms with the Whova video option. If more than five video rooms are set up, you’ll have to use an outside video conferencing url like you would create with your own Zoom account, for example.
