Since 2016, the nearly annual Emerging Contaminants in the Environment Conference (ECEC) features presentations on the latest in emerging contaminant research, policies, and outreach in the soil, water, air and built/human environments. Networking and sharing information across disciplines is highly encouraged at ECEC. Researchers, educators, businesses, government officials, regulatory agencies, policymakers, outreach and extension professionals, environmental groups, members of the public, and medical, veterinary, and public health professionals are just some of the recommended professions to attend and present at the conference.
ECEC is heading into its next exciting chapter. Starting in 2027, ECEC will be entirely virtual in odd number years (e.g., 2027, 2029, 2031, etc.) and in person only in Champaign, IL, USA, in the even years (e.g., 2028, 2030, 2032, etc.). We hope to strike a balance between communicating about emerging contaminants on a global platform and maintaining an effective platform for those communications.
ECEC is co-hosted by the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center and Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant. ECEC is a certified green event by the University of Illinois’ Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment.
