Dr. Kazys Grinius Endowment Scholarship

The Dr. Kazys Grinius Endowment Scholarship was recently established to help fund the education of University of Illinois students “of Lithuanian descent as well as to students who have demonstrated interest in Lithuanian history, culture, and/or language.”  We will award two $1200 scholarships for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Travel Grants for Undergrad Research

The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) at the University of Illinois is pleased to announce its spring 2013 competition for travel grants to subsidize the presentation of undergraduate research at professional conferences.  Proposals should be submitted at https://illinois.edu/fb/sec/2164154and the deadline for submission is 1 May 2013.

In order to apply, students will need to have information on the conference dates and location, evidence that conference participation has been confirmed, estimated expenses, and possible support from mentors and departments.

             Please note that the travel grants are designed for students to present their research during the summer and fall semesters 2013 (another competition will be announced later in 2013).  In addition, these travel grants are not designed to cover the entire cost of student participation (some departmental or college contribution is encouraged) nor can the grant be used to cover post conference participation.

Chancellor’s Public Engagement Student Fellows Program

This new program provides small grants for Illinois students to partner with an outside entity, such as a school, government or nonprofit agency, to solve a problem or provide a service while utilizing their education and learning. Applications require a signature from a faculty sponsor and community partner. Applications for this inaugural program are due April 5, 2013.

The Office of Public Engagement seeks proposals from faculty, students, and staff to fund community-related projects, scholarly work, creative endeavors, course development, and other activities within the broad framework of public engagement. Grants of up to $20,000 will be made available on a competitive basis. The request for proposals will be available August 26, 2013, and the proposal submission deadline is September 27, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.

Undergrad travel grants for Brussels EU Summer Program

Travel Grants to Participate in the University of North Carolina Brussels Summer Program

The University of Illinois EUC will be offering three travel grants to students participating in the University of North Carolina’s EU Center of Excellence Brussels Study Tour of EU Institutions, June 15-21, 2013. These EUC undergraduate travel grants provide funds to cover travel costs and accommodations associated with participating in the University of North Carolina’s Brussels EU summer program. Undergraduate students in all disciplines and departments at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign are eligible.

Money for Study in Sweden

The Department of Germanic Languages & Literatures is pleased to announce an award competition to facilitate study abroad in Sweden during summer 2013 or academic year 2013-14.  The Anna Jensen Memorial Scandinavian Award is a prize in the amount of $1,500 to facilitate study or research in Sweden.  To apply, please submit a 500-word application statement and include your most recent University of Illinois transcript (unofficial is fine). Ideal applicants are students who have been taking Scandinavian courses, or who articulate plans to do so during their time of study abroad. The statement should clearly outline:

 

• your reasons for applying

• how a period of study in Sweden is important to your studies and to your future career plans

• how you expect to use the award (you may include a basic budget)

• what your plans are to continue Swedish and Scandinavian Studies once you return.

 

You may also address in your application if there are special needs or circumstances that motivate your application.

Submit all application materials to the mailbox of Dr. Mark Safstrom, 2090 Foreign Languages Building by 4:45 PM on February 15, 2013.

The final deadline to apply for study abroad scholarships for Summer 2013, Fall 2013, or Academic Year 2013 is Monday, February 4, 2013 at 11:59 pm.

The I4I Scholarship is a student-initiated scholarship that awards funds in the following categories: merit, financial need, non-traditional destination, and underrepresented student.  IPS Scholarships are awarded to high-achieving students who are active in the community, on campus, and in academics.

Illinois Club Scholarship Opportunity

The Illinois Club is now accepting scholarship applications online for next year.  The awards offered are: 

  • Isabelle Purnell Education Awards – $2,000 each, three to five awards
  • Make-A-Difference Awards – $2,000 each, three to five awards
  • Susan T. Haney Social Work Award – $3,000
  • Judith Life Ikenberry Fine Arts Award – $3,600

You will be considered for all awards for which you are eligible.

The Application Deadline is November 1, 11:59PM

You will be notified via e-mail when your application is received.  In January you will be e-mailed again about the status of your application.  If you are a semifinalist you will be interviewed in late January or early February, with notification of all awards occurring shortly thereafter.  Study Abroad student interviews may be Skyped.  The winners will be feted at a Scholarship Awards Brunch on Saturday, March 2.

Illinois for Illinois and International Studies scholarship application deadline Sept. 17

The deadline is approaching for the Illinois for Illinois (I4I) and International Programs & Studies (IPS) Donor-Funded scholarship applications.  Both scholarships are used to fund study abroad opportunities for Illinois students.  I have sent notifications to undergraduate students who intend to study abroad during Winter Break 2012, Spring 2013, and Calendar Year 2013.  Please feel free to forward the following information to colleagues and students and direct questions about the scholarships to me.

The final deadline to apply for the Illinois for Illinois (I4I) and International Programs and Studies (IPS) Study Abroad Undergraduate Scholarships for study abroad programs during Winter Break 2012, Spring Semester 2013, and Calendar Year 2013 is September 17, 2012. The application closes at midnight. Do not miss this deadline!

·         UIUC undergraduates who are participating in an upcoming University-approved study abroad program are eligible to apply for the I4I.  Last year, approximately 1 in 4 applicants received an I4I Scholarship.

·         UIUC undergraduates with a 3.0 or above who are participating in semester-length programs abroad (unless otherwise noted on the website) are eligible to apply for IPS Donor-Funded Scholarships.  The applicant success rate for IPS Scholarships is approximately 1 in 12.
