Disdrometers

In addition to PodNet and PoleNet, the FARM Facility also operates several OTT Parsivel2 disdrometers mounted atop standard Pod frames. Rugged and quickly-deployable, disdrometers are often co-located with Pods and can collect data for many hours before retrieval. Disdrometers complement well with DOW radar deployments, serving to quantify rain rates in observed cells and/or verify dual-polarization radar data with in-situ microphysical observations. Additionally, units may be fitted with GoPro cameras for a visual record of rainfall.
