Makerlab visitor counter updated!!!

Hi, I’m Hang Yu

My project is to make a reliable visitor counter for our makerlab in Business Faculty building. I am going to use is Arduino uno.

ArduinoCommunityLogoarduino-isometric2_jpg_project-main

First,The idea is let a laser diode constantly point at a photosensor placed on the breadboard*Hang YU Sensor_bb

What you need:

1, arduino compatible photosensor

2,LED at pin#13 to notify if it’s blocked

3,10K resistor

4,Arduino uno

Plus, Second, it would be great to build a LCD screen displays the number it counts:

Third, the circuit of laser diode is independent from Arduino and it’s easy to build on bread board.

I am going to work on my project during the summer break.

Week10&11

These weeks we are having fun experience in Campus Fab lab.

What we have played with(like stitching, lazer cutting&Arduino) are a great demonstration of how the maker movement has been propelled on very corner.

Firstly, two weeks ago, my job was doing arduino stuff, which I’s posted on this site:

It’s our “strong friend”, you guys remember? lol4head

And last week, we were doing stitching. Honestly, I didn’t find that interesting to me. However, after seeing what you guys made, I realized that was just my shallowness.I can still remember the stitching machine used by my grandma. She doesn’t have digital aided software at her time which made her work last long for a whole day to complete while we are able to finish this in a few minutes.

Do compare my work with yours, lol:

Finally this week, we are playing with Lazer(Fire)

Exciting Arduino Digital Making

Hi,

This week some of us were able to engage in playing with “Arduino Uno”. I was one of them, luckily.kreygasm

SO what is Arduino?

“Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software. It’s intended for anyone making interactive projects.”

In short, Arduino(the name is an Italian masculine first name, meaning “strong friend”) is a module that better engineering. So what matters to Arduino are sensors, codes and your imagination!IMG_0387

What I’ve done today are 1,make one LED blink 2, make two LEDs blink alternatively 3, control one LED by a switch. (download your environment here:http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Software and begin Control-C&Control-V codes,4head)

SO here I just want to talk about experience learned today.

1, After you finish typing code(or pasting code:D, in most cases), do “compile code”, see if it is successful and then save it, finally upload it to your Arduino. BTW, manually chose the right Serial port (go google the right one for your Arduino series)

2, the circuit plot is really important,

Don’t look at the nasty picture above, go find some like this:

Usually, Red- positive. Black- negative. They make a circuit (go through red to black). Green refers to functional pins. (These “blueprints” are powered by  Fritzing)

Arduino is a very easy-to-use platform and begin your journey:here:http://arduino.cc/en/tutorial/blinkkappa

Week Five Autodesk open a hell gate:)

HI,

It’s me again.kappa

I tired to mod my headphone with fusion 360, like this

afterkreygasm

But look at that bad painting, plus I just can’t convert them into body because it constantly ask me to weld vertex!!!(Need help herebiblethump, since I can’t mod them into A body, Idk if fusion360 require it to be a closed body or sculptures mustn’t intersect)

I hope one day we can do modding just by hand, even fusion360(typically ez to start)’s way is quite unhuman. Fellowing is what I think about this.(They are all parallel, not serial)

Object-oriented modkreygasm, it is stupid to design a headphone without headkappa(exactly just like what I did, lol)

(I wonder where the human head came from, another sculpture, I guess, lol)

See you guys tomorrow:)

PS:By seeing HTML by change it from “Visual” to “Text”, I salute to all you programers:D

Week 4 giveaway!!!

Hi, unbelievably we have come through 4 weeks “severe”(=ez) journey of DIGITAL M(S)A(P)K(O)I(R)N(T)G(S) kreygasmkappa

And Now I want to introduce you my masterpieces4head

1, I finally printed out my team’s nameCard, here we go:

Shazam!

Cheers, S,G,R and me and #3Dprinting!

It looks very nice if you photo it by unaided eyeskappa but my iPad sucks(which is real in terms of camera)

ANd the original CAD looks like this:

uiuc_name_card

IT is very exciting when you see CAD file become real from void just by a printer working for roughly 30 mins~

2, This is the one shows how powerful scanners are:

My sculpture

Future world will be a world of sensors and scanners will play a big role in translating reality into virtuality.

See you next weekkappa🙂

Week Three Ruuuush

Hi, everybody. I am here to introduce what I learned and what I thought and what I was doing this week.

human-c

This week we had a workshop on ‘Human-centered design’. BTW, i’m quite familiar with the term ‘Human-centered’. Human-centered briefly means the process of dealing a problem is developed with people’s actions and our engagement step by step. It is more like the focus is on people suffering than on problem itself. However, this doesn’t mean it put the cart before the horse. Since most of the problems we intend to deal with are not world difficult problems as we saw in the video and we engaged. And this implies we could apply common problems with common solutions where everybody could have a insight by interact by hear, think, and create.

I really appreciate the second warm-up which is the so called ‘Treasure Box’. It really help my brain open since I’ve never done this before, though my partner said it was silly. I agreed with him but still my taste is keep silly, keep hungry:). But here I should say some last word is that human-centerd design is similar to the method preferred by many internet companies and they call it Growth-Hacking in order to dig a vertical market. See more on ‘Johns, Andy (May 11, 2012). “Facebook Growth and Traction: What are some decisions taken by the “Growth team” at Facebook that helped Facebook reach 500 million users?”

Finally come to ‘what I was doing’ section.

1, I’m doing convert SPACE ENGINEER(sandbox game) spaceships into mod files which we can 3D print

before

after

slide1_image

YOu guys can youtube ‘Space engineer’ and learn more on STEAM:D

BTW, anyone know C# is able to make functional ingame code. It’s has a programable block, amazingXD

2, Second I want to show my interests on TinkerCAD

Here is my design of group name card:

uiuc_name_card

Since we have 4 members, so I use Polygon instead with ‘3D print’ solidtext on the fifth surface as you can see.

And I found this interesting piece of work on TinkerCAD which I am going to share with you:Nuclear Submarine

copy_of_nuclear_submarine

I was captivated by such underwater monsters in childhood, wow~

PS1:I didn’t remember week 2 contend so I go rush of week 3; PS2: I really like that guy using Tilt-shift photography on their name card, it looks beautiful,@;PS3:@, your ‘Tower of Pi‘ really catch my eyes, lol
