First computer install at UNCC

Setting up new computers

UNCC students remove old towers to make way for new ones.

On Friday, September 26th, the Urbana Neighborhood Connection Center had a visit from Jeff at the Fab Lab, who delivered 12 new computers. These 12 replaced half of the UNCC computer lab, whose computers were either running slow or not working at all.

The best part of this installation, was that Jeff, and Hailley, the Community Ambassador at the site, had help from the UNCC students! We had three main middle school helpers, who set the towers and monitors up, hooked up all the chords (power cords, ethernet cords, etc), and then made sure the computers turned on and the internet worked. In addition, we had a handful of middle and elementary students help carry equipment in and move the old equipment away. With the small number of students, we were able to really talk through the various components of the install and hopefully teach them a thing or two about computers!

Of course, in the general craziness of the day, not only we were installing new computers, but UNCC was having its floor waxed. Never a dull moment around here!

Also, a big shout out to additional help from Travis, another Community Ambassador, and Fab Lab employee, Chinedu Onyejekwe.
