When reading a book there are several ways to annotate and commit what you have read to memory. These are a few techniques I use in order to remember what I have read.

When I read a book I underline important parts and take notes in a notebook on important events that occur in the book .  The following are pictures of how I annotate.  I apologize for the poor handwriting.

“The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second.” (Steinbeck, 60).  This quote from Cannery Row and its underlying message inspired me to write a poem. The poem is entitled Leverage and is featured above.
