Directions / Avoid the marathon!

Here’s a map pointing to the location of our event: https://goo.gl/maps/NkAjCBgjuZJ2.

April 27 is also the morning the Illinois Marathon takes place. Below is the guidance from their veteran traffic manager, Scott Friedlein. He fields further questions at safriedlein@gmail.com. The basic idea is to arrive from the north after 8:15 am, driving south on 5th Street to Daniel. Parking is plentiful around the event.

“For the most part your folks will not have any issues getting to your event.  The intersection of 5th and Green will be the first to open and should be available around 8:15 am.  It will be important, since I am not sure where your folks will be coming from, to cross Green from the north to the south and for them to use the beltway to move around the city.  I have attached 3 documents that you can send to them. They are

Saturday-Marathon-Within-2019-final (Within the Loop),

Course-Impact-Times (Course Impact Times — see too the full course), and

IL_Marathon_beltway (Beltway Map).

“They should plan ahead.  If they are already in Champaign or Urbana and within any of the loops identified in the document they will need to make sure they plan accordingly.  The key is to avoid crossing the course as much as possible.  In some cases it may be better for them to leave early, grab some breakfast and then come to your event from the north to the south.

“I hope this helps. There will be a hotline established once we get closer to race weekend for folks to call into for additional assistance.  That number will be posted on the website www.illinoismarathon.com.”
