Data Science Across Disciplines is a project funded through a Focal Point grant from the Graduate College of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. DSAD seeks to provide the opportunity for graduate students at Illinois to develop data analytic skills while learning about multidisciplinary uses of data and data science skills. This goal is achieved through a weekly seminar during the 2015-16 academic year in which students will be exposed to speakers from across campus and to beginning programming skills.
We would like to thank the following organizations for their support of this project:
- The Graduate College at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
- Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS)
- Illinois Informatics Institute (I3)
- University Library
- Research Data Service (RDS)
UPCOMING EVENTS:
Data Science across Disciplines Seminar: Analysis and Visualization of Volumetric Datasets
Tuesday, February 9, 4 p.m., Main Library, room 106
Join the Data Science Across Disciplines Focal Point in our first talk of the new semester with Dr. Matt Turk, a professor in Astronomy and a research scientist at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications! Dr. Turk will be talking about yt, a python package for analyzing and visualizing volumetric, multi-resolution data from astrophysical simulations, radio telescopes, and a burgeoning interdisciplinary community. Refreshments will be served after his talk.
Future Talks:
March 15: Dr. Dan Work (Civil and Environmental Engineering)
April 5: Dr. Flavia Andrade (Public Health)
April 26: DSAD Poster Session
