FAQ

Q. What is “social dancing”?
A. We refer to social dancing as a combination of all partner dances, including ballroom, latin, nightclubs, etc. Our focus is to dance, be social, and most importantly – have fun!

Q. Do I need any experience to take any of the classes?
A. No, our beginner classes are designed for people who have no dancing experience at all.

Q. I am a terrible dancer, is there still hope for me?
A. You’re on our website, that’s a good start. To us, there is no such thing as a terrible dancer as long as you’re willing to learn.

Q. Do I need any special shoes or clothes for the dances or classes?
A. No, we try to promote a very casual and fun environment, so wear anything that is comfortable for you to move in. Although, for your safety and others, flip flops are not recommended.

Q. How do I register for the classes and do I have to do it ahead of time?
A. Registration is done in person on the first day of class. Sometimes we’ll open up early registration with a discount before classes starting, sign up for our email list to get reminders! However, early registration is not required.

Q. Do I need a partner to join?
A. Partners are not required. In fact, we always rotate partners during the classes because dancing with different people not only exposes you to different styles (which helps with improving your dance), but also gives you a chance to meet different people (which is why we call it “social dancing”).

Q. I actually have a partner, will I be able to dance with that partner exclusively?
Unfortunately, we do discourage hogging your partner. Come talk to us about your circumstances, and we’ll see what we can do about it.

Q. I’m not a UIUC student nor am I affiliated with the University, can I still join the club?
A. YES! Even though we are a student club, we welcome all. We like people, we like dancing, we especially like people who like dancing.
