Selected students receive training, support, and a $4K stipend during the 10-week summer program. Learn more and apply by Feb. 6: go.illinois.edu/community-academicscholars

The Summer 2023 Community-Academic Scholar application period is now open. We have opportunities that may be of interest to students who are passionate about working toward solutions to many of the challenges facing our local and regional communities: mental and physical health, poverty, health disparities, and our society’s urgent need for racial and social justice. Please consider sharing the information below with undergraduate students in your networks.

We cannot stress enough that this program is truly open to all majors. Some of the best work comes out of the interdisciplinary collaboration that occurs between students and academic mentors from different fields!

Summer Study in Korea in Korean and Film or other area of interest

ACES and LAS are pleased to share a new summer study abroad opportunity that will be open to students across campus!

The Summer Study and Intern Program at Chungnam National University in South Koreaoffers students an opportunity to take intensive Korean language courses and study subjects in their majors or areas of interest for 4 weeks. Some of the additional subjects include Big Data, GIS, Global Marketing, and Film. No prior Korean language experience is required for the 4-weeks of coursework.

Students can participate in an optional 2-week internship after their coursework. The internships are well suited for students interested in Animal Science, Biology, Natural Sciences, Public Service, and Nonprofits. Some internships require basic Korean language proficiency or pre-requisite experience in a specific subject area. These details are outlined on the My Study Abroad program page.  **Students will not receive credit for their internships through CNU, so we will encourage them to speak to you about whether departmental internship or independent study credit may be possible.

As part of the program, students will also engage in experiential learning activities to gain a better understanding of the history, culture, and important natural environment surrounding Daejeon.=

This is an exchange and the on-site housing is offered at no additional cost, so we hope that this will program will be financially accessible for students.

The deadline to apply for the summer 2023 program is February 15. Students can email aces-studyabroad@illinois.edu or las-studyabroad@illinois.edu to learn more.
