Welcome!

This website provides information about Tamarkoz® events for the University of Illinois and the broader Urbana-Champaign community. The events are sponsored by the University of Illinois Salaam MENA cultural center in collaboration with Wesley United Methodist Church.

Tamarkoz® is the art of self-knowledge through concentration and meditation. It is a Sufi meditation practice that harmonizes all aspects of your being (your body, breath, senses, thoughts, and innate energies) so that you can recognize your true identity and can live in balance. These exercises teach you to release stress, focus, and gain a better understanding of yourself.

Sufi Meditation Sessions, using the Tamarkoz method, are held through the Fall on the first Saturday of the month, 3-4pm. Our Spring 2026 sessions will be held on January 3, February 7, March 7, April 4, and May 2, at Wesley Foundation Student Center, 1203 W Green St, Urbana, IL. Ample free parking is available at the lot accessible from Goodwin Ave.

The event is open to all students, university staff, faculty, and community members. No meditation experience necessary!

You are welcome to bring a yoga mat and journal, but these will be provided to those who don’t bring them. See details below. Questions? Contact Sepideh Sadaghiani, at sepideh@illinois.edu.
