All stories have their spaces, their borders and their moments. Some are told for centuries, some last a minute. Some like to travel and some stay put. Too often, certain stories go nameless while others get famous because of the many inequitable conditions of their social lives. Yes, stories do live. They like to get some fresh air and walk around from time to time too.
The Champaign Urbana Counternarratives Project is one earnest attempt to turn down the noise of structural inequity and listen for the signal that has been playing all along. This is a collaborative, community-interest-centered, interdisciplinary, multi-generational project designed to bring people together and listen to the stories we have to tell.
