Treatment Approaches

It was carefully decided to disbind the object. When working with objects like this, it is important to maintain the order and to avoid disbinding when possible. With these volumes, the object was at risk of damage every time it was opened. Therefore, it was decided to disbind the items.

After the items were disbound, the pages were individual surface cleaned to remove lose dirt. Once surface cleaned, items were humidified and adhesive was removed by hand. Once cleaned and humidified, the items were flattened and then repaired.

Each volume takes about 80 hours to complete.
