Teaming for the Computing/Energy Nexus
Abstract: Computing circuits process both information and energy. This talk presents considerations at the level of a data center for effective grid interaction and at the module level for enhanced power delivery. The points seek to motivate peer team design that includes energy and data processing requirements up front. Co-design leads to established potential to decrease energy demand by an order of magnitude and enhance the impact of renewable energy.

Bio: Philip T. Krein holds the Grainger Endowed Chair Emeritus in Electric Machinery and Electromechanics at the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign. He received the IEEE William E. Newell Power Electronics Award in 2003 and the IEEE Transportation Technologies Award in 2021. He holds 42 U.S. patents and is a Registered Professional Engineer in Illinois and Oregon, a Fellow of the U.S. National Academy of Inventors, and a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering.
