Biography

Raised in a metropolitan city like São Paulo, Brazil, Karine de M. Santos had mainly contact with dogs and cats. Even during the holidays when she used to visit her cousin’s farm, she always stayed playing most of time with pets. In the course of the time, the passion for animals, biology, and science just increased and led her to completing a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science at the São Paulo State University. During that time, Karine was an intern for 3 years at the Laboratory of Dogs and Cats Nutrition of the same institution and where she completed an initiation scientific project and her monography. At the last year of her undergraduate program, Karine had the opportunity of visiting the Wageningen University as exchange student where she also did her mandatory internship in the Animal Nutrition Group and other two internships at the National Veterinary School of Nantes and Orffa additives company. Currently, she is a master student at the University of São Paulo her research is about prebiotic effects in healthy dogs. As part of his master’s program, Karine is a visiting scholar in the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, under the guidance of Dr. Godoy.
