BYOR Library Working Groups

Do you have data waiting to be collected, cleaned, analyzed, or visualized? Are your qualifying exams looming and you need to target your reading? Our BYOR Working Group provides structure, guidance, and accountability to help you complete your data or literature review project before the summer.

  • Assistance with data or literature research questions
  • A community of peers to talk through ideas with
  • Weekly group check-ins to hold you accountable for meeting your deadlines
  • Access and referrals to learning resources

Groups meet weekly for 8 weeks online.

  • Data Analysis and Visualization – Is sitting down to write and troubleshoot your data analysis code a source of stress? Are you searching for ways to summarize and present your data to others? Any skill level, any software package, come and discuss your stumbling blocks or current projects. Tuesdays: 1-2 pm Qualitative Data; 3-4 pm Quantitative Data
  • Preparing for Prelims, Quals, Comps – Demonstrating mastery of your field is a large task. Come work through small, achievable tasks with others in the same position. Discuss your process, hear about others’, pick-up ideas. Mondays: 10-11 am
  • Quiet Communal Work Time – maybe you want to write, maybe program, maybe data clean, or you could just use a working group to help you carve out the time.

Library Working Groups are open to all UIUC students, postdocs, staff and faculty working on research projects.  All experience levels are welcome.
