John Bambenek is a lecturer in the Departments of Computer Science and the iSchool (School of Information Sciences) teaching courses in cybersecurity. He has 18 years experience in the field working in incident response, digital forensics, and cybersecurity threat intelligence. As part of his work, he has participated in investigations involving both major political parties in the 2016 elections. He currently tracks digital fundraising with neonazis online with a twitter bot.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities at the University, he works as a threat intelligence manager at Fidelis Cybersecurity, he runs his own consulting business, Bambenek Consulting, and he is a volunteer incident handler at the SANS Internet Storm Center. He has written course materials and certification exams for many cybersecurity certifications in risk management, digital forensics, penetration testing, and threat intelligence. He once appeared on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He has a weekly syndicated AM radio Cybersecurity Today which is also podcasted.
