Overview

The AREMA Student Chapter at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was founded in the fall of 2008. The goal of the chapter is to expose students to railroad engineering education and the railway industry in order to foster the development of leaders in railroad engineering in North America and throughout the world.

The American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-way Association (AREMA) is a professional organization that produces and publishes the recommended practices for railway engineering infrastructure including track, structures, and communications & signals. It is concerned with furthering the development and advancement of both technical and practical knowledge of the industry.

The AREMA Student Chapter at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign offers students a chance to learn about the excitement, challenges, and way of life in the railroad industry through presentations by guest speakers, along with allowing field visits to railroad project sites and the ability to find other students that may have similar interests.
