The roots of traditional Japanese ceremony go back centuries, and has been ritualized into an art form that takes years and years to master. It is a fascinating peak into Japanese culture as well because it incorporates so many other Japanese art forms and aesthetics. There will be a brief tour of Japan House before the tea ceremony. The ceremony itself is a highly ritualized serving of tea, and the people that conduct the tea ceremony wear kimonos and follow traditions that they have studied for many years. Japan House is surrounded by Japanese gardens, including a tea garden, a dry rock garden, and an allée of fifty cherry trees. These gardens are very different than Western gardens, with a focus on the natural landscape, utilizing plants, rustic stone, and water. Instead of bright color and symmetry, these gardens focus on green foliage and natural shapes of plants. The design of the gardens creates an extraordinarily peaceful and tranquil environment.
