57th Actuarial Research Conference
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has been selected to host one of the most influential international academic conferences in the actuarial community — the 57th Actuarial Research Conference (ARC) — to take place August 3 through August 6, 2022.
The ARC is one of the premier annual events for actuarial scientists in North America to meet and discuss research problems and solutions in all areas of actuarial practice. It appeals to both academic and practicing actuaries.
The University of Illinois has a long and 
proud history in actuarial science. It dates back to 1906 when the first actuarial course was created in the Department of Mathematics. Today the program produces close to 7% of our nation’s graduates in actuarial science each year and boasts one of the largest actuarial alumni networks in the world. We are very excited about the opportunity to showcase the development of actuarial science at the University of Illinois and to raise the awareness and visibility of actuarial research in American universities at the international stage.

Why ARC 2022 @ Illinois?
Industry and Research Collaboration
The University of Illinois has a long history and tradition of close ties and collaboration with the insurance industry and financial institutions. Its actuarial program is highly recognized in the actuarial community as one of the premier programs in the nation, known for high-quality education and innovations. Our faculty and students have worked with many corporate partners on a wide range of consulting and research projects through the Illinois Risk Lab and Research Park. Officially established in 2018, the Illinois Risk Lab serves as an industry-academic collaboration hub. It facilitates integration of a discovery-based learning experience for students, and it showcases state-of-the-art research in all areas of risk analysis and advanced analytics. Research Park is a technology center for startup companies, corporate research, and development operations. Within Research Park are more than 120 companies employing more than 2,100 people, including students and full-time technology professionals. Insurance and financial companies such as State Farm, Axis Re, Country Financial, and Synchrony, are present in Research Park.
Reunion of the Actuarial Community
This the first in-person major actuarial research conference since 2019. We are excited to host the long-awaited reunion of friends in the actuarial community. It is a celebration of the community’s resilience and creativity through the pandemic. We hope to see old and new friends and their families and catch up with each other.
Excellent Location and Excursion
Urbana-Champaign is within a 2-3 hour drive from Chicago, Indianapolis, and St. Louis, making it an excellent location for a summer excursion before and after the conference. Within the theme of reunion, we have planned a series of social events, including a reception on August 3, an excursion to Japan House on August 4 where we’ll take part in a traditional tea ceremony and a garden tour, and a banquet dinner on August 5, featuring banquet addresses from the president-elect of the Society of Actuaries and Casualty Actuarial Society.
