The National Medical-Legal Trial Competition is the only trial competition in the country where a medical school and a law school collaborate to simulate real life expert testimony by doctors. Each competing school has access to leading industry consultants from DOAR.

The Anderson Center’s Hofstra National Trial Advocacy Team competed October 6, 7, 8 in Hempstead, New York at the Hofstra Medical-Legal Trial Competition. During the competition, they represented both the plaintiff and the defendant in a wrongful death civil suit, working with real-life medical students who were playing the role of expert witnesses. After six grueling rounds, they defeated Chicago-Kent to win the Championship!
Nina Grover, Lili Klainer, Michaela Newton and Vinisha Prajapati represented the College of Law. They completed the competition undefeated, besting many of the nation’s top advocacy schools. Nina was recognized as one of the outstanding advocates for the preliminary rounds. Michaela and Lili received praise in both the semifinals and finals, with multiple judges commenting that Lili’s cross examination was the best they’ve ever seen in a trial competition. Throughout the competition, judges and competitors alike commented on the team’s professionalism and high level of advocacy. Vinisha was especially singled out for her high level of professionalism and preparation.
The Hofstra-Medical Competition is an invite only trial competition that only accepted 20 of the top advocacy schools in the country. It’s the only competition that emphasizes working with expert witnesses, an essential skill our advocates will carry with them into practice.
We are tremendously proud of our Hofstra Team for their hard work and dedication. They were wonderful teammates to one another, professional with other teams and before the judges, and great examples of zealous, tough, and ethical advocacy.
On behalf of the team, we would also like to thank our coaches, Olivia Romano and Kheana Pollard. We truly appreciate your time and support!
