The first general meeting of the spring semester was a huge success with over forty people in attendance. Eric Mancke of Manhard Consulting gave a presentation on the aspects of land development in civil engineering. We are very appreciative that he was able take the time to come talk to ASCE. We hope to see everyone again at the next general meeting!

Our first general meeting for the semester will be held this Thursday, January 30th at 5pm. The meeting will be in room 2311 in the Yeh Student Center. At this meeting, Eric Mancke of Manhard Consulting will present about his company and also about the land development aspects of civil engineering. Eric graduated from Illinois in 1998 and works as a project manager for Manard Consulting. Free food will be provided before the meeting begins. There will also be a happy hour with Eric at Legend’s right after the meeting.

Our last general meeting for the semester will be held this Thursday, December 5th at 5pm. We will be holding elections at this meeting for the following positions: Treasurer, External Vice President, Secretary, Outreach Chair, Internet/Membership Chair, and EC/EOH Representative. Becoming a board member is a great way to get more involved in the ASCE organization as well as the Civil Engineering Department as a whole. If you are interested in one of these positions please email Mark Keller at Keller31@illinois.edu with the position(s) you would like to run for. There will also be a presentation by Wiss, Janey, Elstner Associates, Inc. as well as food provided at the meeting.

Thanks to all who showed up to our first general meeting last week! We had a great turnout with over 100 people, who managed to eat all of our 27 pizzas!  Also special thanks to Brittany and Jimmy from Burns & McDonnell for the great presentation. Our next event will be a happy hour with the ASCE Professional Chapter.  It will be at Legends Bar and Grill on Wednesday October 2nd at 5:30 PM.  The event will consist of some trivia questions and opportunities to win small prizes, as well as being great way to network with nearby professionals in ASCE. Hope to see you there!
