Essay II

Annotated Bibliography

It was no secret, well maybe for those viewing my portfolio, that citing was a reoccurring challenge for me this semester . In my annotated bibliography, this struggle was only magnified. However, this assignment allowed me to learn from my citation mistakes and prevent me from making them in other assignments. Until this year or this assignment, citations had been the least of worries. In previous years, I hardly recall getting feedback or criticism on my works cited page, in-text citations or any citations for that matter. Lets just say, this issue was long deserving of recognition.

The focus of my revision process was, of course, citations and formatting them correctly. The most common problem was mistaking journal titles for books, which caused me to italicize them instead of putting them in quotations. I went through and corrected those that were highlighted and also took a look at some that weren’t, just to make sure they were correct. I also didn’t put my sources in alphabetical order, which happened to be a result of me not paying attention. It was also the result of me formatting the author’s name incorrectly, putting their first name first instead of their last name. I found that my revision process worked best if I looked at the work as whole, instead of pin-pointing the errors that were highlighted.

There were also paragraph issues, in which I fixed by simply using the paragraph styling tool to ident my paragraphs correctly. I also added a subtitle to my title for clarification purposes and a sentence on to my working thesis to focus my research.

Completing this assignment has expanded my knowledge on the issues regarding homelessness and mental illness in the workplace. It has also made me realize the importance in having correct citations in academic writing.
