Today’s youth encounter various stressors and challenges in their everyday life. Yet, the effects of stress are not the same for all youth. Why are some youth more vulnerable, whereas others are more resilient, in the face of stress?
The ADAPT Lab examines common stressors during the early to late adolescent years, such as interpersonal stress, academic challenges, and school transitions. We aim to identify factors that may contribute to differences in youths’ adjustment in these contexts. Our lab focuses on youths’ physiological and behavioral responses to stress and parent-child interactions about stressful experiences. Our research takes an interdisciplinary approach and aims to inform efforts to support positive youth development and well-being.
