Law 199: Law, Politics and Economics, UIUC 

The course covers the economic principles behind firms’ competitive behavior and the fundamentals fo the U.S. competition laws. The course discusses the topics of various market structures including Competition, Monopoly, Cartel and Collusion, Horizontal Mergers and Vertical Integrations and also important law frameworks including the Sherman Act, the Clayton Act, the FTC Act,  2010 Horizontal Merger Guidelines and 2020 Vertical Merger Guidelines. Law 797: Economics  and Law of Digital Platforms, UIUC 

This course covers the economics and law of digital platforms. The course discusses the novel business models and important features associated with digital platforms and examine firms’ abuse of dominance conducts in the digital space. The course also explores the recent development in the antitrust regulation of digital platforms and review the recent cases involving major digital platforms (e.g., Apple, Google, Amazon, Facebook). 

*This is a short online course to be offered in Spring 2024.

This course covers the economics analyses of digital platforms. The course discusses the novel competition models and important features associated with digital platforms and examine firms’ abuse of dominance conducts in the digital space. The course also explores the recent development in the antitrust regulation of digital platforms and review the recent cases involving major digital platforms (e.g., Apple, Google, Amazon, Facebook and Microsoft). 

*This course will be offered in Fall and Spring 2023-2024.
