Dr. Chiyoung Ahn

Dr. Ahn is Associate Professor in the department of the Chinese Language and Cultural Studies at Incheon National University. His major research topics are the power transition of the CCP at the early reform era and CCP history. During his stay at the University of Illinois, he is working on: the causes and characteristics of the transition from Hua Gufeng Regime to Deng Xiaoping Regime; the Yan’an Regime’s contradictions and Gao Gang affair; the Sino-Soviet relations and the breakout of the Korean War.

Dr. Li is Associate Professor in the School of Marxism at Wuhan University. Dr. Li’s academic field is the history of Chinese Communist Party and it construction. His specific field of research is the CCP and the Chinese politics. He plans to deepen these researches with the following projects during his stay at the University of Illinois: “A Comparative Study of Political Parties and Society between China and Western Nations” and “The Research on CCP in America.”

Dr. Zhaohui Liu

Dr. Liu is Associate Professor of Anthropology at Zhejiang University. He also is the executive director of the Institute of Anthropology at Zhejiang University. His research interests focus on cultural heritage, migration, social assessment, and rural community development. During his stay at the University of Illinois, he is working on the research project, “Resettlement, Cultural Conversation, and Cultural Rights in Development Projects.”

Dr. Xiaohong Zhang

Dr. Xiaohong Zhang is assistant professor at South China Normal University. Dr. Zhang earned her Ph.D from Renmin University in 2010. Her research interests include social capital, law and society, criminology and social service evaluation. Dr. Zhang currently works on a project addressing crimes against women and dispute resolution in rural areas.

Dr. Li is an Associate Professor in the College of Humanities and Development at China Agricultural University. Her research interests are on immigration and labor mobility from an interdisciplinary perspective of sociology and anthropology. She will pursue the following projects during the year of VASP: “Immigration and Its Impact on Community Development” On Acquiring Knowledge and Adaptability to Social Surroundings of Undergraduate Students” and “The Construction of Migrants’ Subjectivity from the Perspective of Linguistic Anthropology.”

Dr. Yao is Associate Professor in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT). His research interests include Contemporary Chinese political system, Modern Chinese historical figures, History of political thoughts, Comparative politics of China and America. During the year as a visiting scholar at CEAPS of UIUC, He will pursue the following projects: “The comparative study of cultural and political thoughts between China and America”.

Xiaoping Ding is chief officer at Research Office of Yinchuan Government in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Her research interests are in migration and poverty alleviation from an interdisciplinary perspective of sociology and politics. She will pursue the following projects during the year of VASP: “How to explore and Resolve the Self-initiated Migration among Ethnic Minorities to Foster Social Harmony and National Integration.
