Deadline approaching: STEM Teaching Fellowship opportunity

Dear Colleague:

For your students, friends, or colleagues who want to use their math or science knowledge with the young people who need them most, the

Curious about the advantages of our clinically-based program?

Woodrow Wilson Fellows are immersed into the role of teaching early in the program.  Fellows begin co-teaching in a high-need school from day one of the fall semester to the end of the academic year.  A licensed teacher and Woodrow Wilson fellow work collaboratively sharing responsibilities for co-planning, designing curriculum, formal and informal assessments, and teaching which benefits students in the STEM classroom.  I believe communication and collaboration are the key elements leading to the success of the co-teaching model where both co-teacher and fellow work as partners in the classroom.  I have seen our fellows and their co-teachers share the same work ethics, have pedagogical skills/skill sets that complement each other. The co-teaching experience for our fellows has worked extremely well.

-Dr. Delphina (Del) Hopkins-Gillispie, Director of Lincensure at Valparaiso University

My co- teaching experience at Wirt/Emerson Visual Performing Arts and High Ability Academy has been a priceless experience in my preparation for having my own classroom next year.  My cooperating teacher has helped me learn about how the classroom functions, gives me advice on any situations with students, and has helped me adjust to a new school. This experience has truly helped me learn about the classroom environment and has been the part of the program that has taught me the most about what teaching in a high-needs school is really like.

-Martin Barker, 2014 Woodrow Wilson Indiana Teaching Fellow at Valparaiso University

We are proud that education leaders recognize the impact of the program as an initial teaching certification program for STEM students.

Hear Principal Dan Wilson share how he’s seen Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellows be more prepared than other first-year teachers.
