VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Stress Management Peer Leaders
 
McKinley Heath Center’s Health Education Unit is seeking volunteers to become Stress Management Peer (SMP) Leaders.  SMP is dedicated to providing education & awareness to UI students on stress-related topics and concerns. We facilitate stress-related workshops, participate in campus-wide program planning and other organizational events while embracing the diversity of our campus. This is a great opportunity to enhance leadership skills and meet new and interesting people. Strong communication skills desired. This hands-on experience is a great volunteer opportunity!

Conflict Resolution Training Opportunity

Mediation Services in the Office for Student Conflict Resolution is currently accepting Fall 2014 applications for the Conflict Resolution Training Program, and this year we are offering an additional two-day advanced training opportunity for students in the class!
 
Please share this opportunity with your undergraduate and graduate students.  The program introduces the participants to mediation and other alternative conflict resolution concepts and is focused on developing conflict resolution skills to help them address conflict they may encounter in the future.  It can be particularly helpful to students in leadership positions!  Practice scenarios include a variety of situations, including roommate, personal, organizational, and work conflict.  Students who complete this program will receive a certificate of completion and gain a skill to share on their resume.

LINC Opportunities

Interested in real-life projects, service-learning, and teamwork and leadership experience?
Register for Fall’14 ENG 315-Learning in Community (LINC) courses (3 credit hours) – open to all majors and all levels. LINC students engage in a variety of research, service and fieldwork activities and collaborate on interdisciplinary projects of significance to local and international community partners. Students have built bridges, produced marketing campaigns, improved water systems, developed youth programs, designed rain gardens, and lots more!
Students can gain knowledge and skills in conducting research, understanding social and environmental issues, analyzing community and organizational needs and assets, defining problems, generating and analyzing solutions, project scoping, planning, and execution, communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and professional writing.
Don’t miss your opportunity to gain professional experience and make a lasting impact in the community! ENG 315 counts as an elective for the Leadership Studies Minor. There are many positions available to co-manage a LINC-Learning in Community course (ENG 315) with interdisciplinary projects related to social and environmental issues, engineering and technical problems, education, community health, international development, and more!

ICDI RECRUITMENT- Be part of an emerging international intiative

We are student leaders committed to developing relationship and leadership skills between domestic and international students to promote a more inclusive UIUC campus.
The Intercultural Community Development Initiative is a new university initiative responding to the lack of social understanding and inclusion among International and domestic students here on the UIUC campus. We are looking for bright, highly-motivated students who are passionate about intercultural relationships and creating a more inclusive campus. 
Our goal is to enhance learning of social and relational skills, learning to adjust to the cultural norms, and developing leadership skills.
 
As part of ICDI, you will:
·       Create a legacy– you’ll be part of creating a brand new university program 
·       Use your talents– you’ll hone skills in event planning, workshop facilitating, marketing, budgeting, curriculum development, or teaching
·       Develop an impressive international network– you’ll be working and networking with university administrators and private companies both here and abroad.
 
Our current project is to create an in-country social workshop for international students pre-departure in Shanghai. That’s right- we’re going to work in China. We will continue to develop workshops on campus, and develop strong relationships with international students throughout their time at the university.

Apply to be a John Graf Intern at the Illinois Leadership® Center!  This is a paid year-long internship for the 2014-2015 school year – there are 4 positions available!
What is the John Graf Internship and what do interns do?
·  Coordinate and implement leadership development programs (I-programs)
·  A personal and professional development opportunity to develop communication, networking, program management, and leadership skills
·  Conduct Leadership workshops for students and staff around campus
·  Recruit Graf Interns for the next school year
Requirements for candidates applying for the internship are:
·  High academic achievement (a minimum GPA of 2.8/4.0)
·  Junior or Senior standing during the term of the internship
·  Available to work 15 hours per week
