The Department of Biostatistics has exciting summer opportunities for undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students. We are seeking students who love math, are curious about public health, and want to make a difference. Check out the Summer Program in Biostatistics and Computational Biology and the Post Baccalaureate Internship!
 
Application Deadline: February 1st
 
Summer Program
        6-week comprehensive experience at Harvard.
        Take a course in Biostatistics and Epidemiology.
        Learn statistical software packages (e.g. R, Stata).
        Participate in a collaborative research project at Harvard guided by a graduate student and mentored by a faculty member.
        Attend research talk about hot topics in public health (e.g. Nutrition, social behavior) by internationally renowned speakers.
        Present research findings at the Annual Symposium in July 2015.
        Receive directed mentoring, support for graduate school applications, and selection, and GRE prep.
        Travel, housing, and food provided.
 
Post-Baccalaureate Internship Program
        3-month research experience at academic and clinical centers at Harvard, guided by a Harvard faculty member and graduate student mentor.
        Conduct biostatistics, epidemiology, or computational biology research.
        Present research findings at the Annual Symposium in July 2015.
        Receive directed mentoring and support for graduate school applications/ selection.
        Travel and salary provided.
 
Application Requirements
        Completed online application. 
        Personal Statement (1 page).
        Official Transcripts.
        2 Recommendation Letters, preferably from faculty who can attest to the applicant’s classroom performance, motivation, and overall suitability for research.

Academic Internships

Academic internships in political science are open to all majors.  There is still time to earn credit in association with an internship here in Urbana-Champaign. We will have a new State Representative, Carol Ammons, and a new State Senator, so it is an exciting time.  Congressman Davis’s office is also accepting applications.  Law, health, immigration, and environmental groups are looking for you!

You can earn political science credit with any political internship, here in Champaign-Urbana, in Washington (deadlines approaching in Feb. and Mar.), or abroad with the State Department.  There are currently student interns in Vienna, Paris, and New York.  There are also study abroad internship programs. Boren Undergraduate Scholarships and Graduate Fellowships provide unique funding opportunities for freshman through seniors, and graduate students at all levels, to study language and culture in non-Western regions critical to US interests. Must be a US citizen.
 
The strongest candidates have a solid academic record and the potential to succeed in their proposed study abroad experience, as well as clear plans for how they will use the target language in their future academic and professional endeavors. Boren Scholars commit to working in the federal government for at least 1 year after graduation.

ranslation and Interpretation recruting/info session for students

We’re sponsoring a campus recruiting session next week (Wednesday September 24th) by Ad Astra, a Washington DC-based company that provides translation and interpretation services to both public and private sectors.  They are looking to recruit interns for upcoming projects and are hoping to build a relationship with U of I departments for the long-term. 
 
A student recruiting/informational session will be held from 1:30 to 3 in Lucy Ellis, the attached flyer has information on this session.  This session will provide information on opportunities available in the translation/interpretation fields as well as specifics about their internships.

Political Science fair…TODAY!

Come learn more about this academic internship program open to all Illinois undergraduates.  Students live in Washington, DC for a semester or summer, intern 4 days a week, and take U of I classes.
